What would {a thrifty} Beyoncé do?

January 19, 2015

Happy New Year!  I'm only, what...19 days late?  At least we're still in the month of January, right?

I always love the time of the New Year because I'm one of those weird people that actually enjoys change.  I find myself staring at the horizon of a new calendar year with a fresh perspective and with an excitement for new opportunities that will inevitably appear.  I feel all the layers of the year before slowly falling away, allowing a clean soul to emerge.

This New Year, I decided to do something I've never done before, but many others have.  I decided to choose a theme.

What would {a thrifty} Beyoncé do?

That's right.

Initially, I wanted to just implement the theme of "What would Beyoncé do?"

I think my Beyoncé would:

  • Fight for what she believes in
  • Stand firm in her faith and beliefs
  • Not let others dictate how she feels about herself
  • Think before saying "yes" to something
  • Only say "yes" to things she really wants to do
  • Work hard physically to obtain a new fitness goal
  • Read a lot more
  • Write a lot more
  • Invest in others a lot more
  • Maintain her identity as a child of the King
  • Look really fabulous while doing all of the above

While I do believe Beyoncé would do all of these things above, she'd probably do them with a lot more help than most of us. (i.e. personal trainers, personal stylists, etc).  So I had to add an amendment to my theme.  What would A THRIFTY Beyoncé do?

  • All of the above PLUS pay off at least $12,000 of debt and maintain a slim but manageable budget.

Boom.

And here we are, only 19 days in to a new year and a new theme and I feel better than ever. With more time in the Word, the help of mentors that kick my tail both financially and emotionally, and beautiful friends and family that speak words of truth, I feel all of the dead layers falling away.  Like a plant being pruned, peeling back all of the dead pieces so a new flower can emerge, I feel ready to take on a new season of life, pushing forward to a new Light.

What is your theme for the new year?  Are you taking time to shed all of the unnecessary layers you may have built over the last year?  It may not be easy but it will be worth it.  The only way to get stronger is many repetitions of things that are difficult to do.

Keep pushing, friends.
